Building the Foundation for Courageous Conversations: Coaching Teams to Navigate Conflict Productively
Brea Steele and Cherelle McKnight
Tuesday, October 27
9:00–10:00 a.m. MDT
To engage in equity-focused dialogue, teams must first develop the capacity to navigate conflict with purpose and psychological safety. This session introduces practical approaches for co-constructing team agreements that normalize disagreement, using structured protocols to surface and explore divergent perspectives, and mediating interpersonal tensions through strategies that promote ownership and empathy. Participants will leave with concrete facilitation moves that support teams in moving from tentative participation toward genuine examination of practice.
Featured Session
SlowMath: Looking for and Making Use of Structure
Jennifer Wilson and Timesha Brooks
Thursday, October 29
2:30–3:30 p.m. MDT
Providing opportunities for students to learn and do math using the Standards for Mathematical Practice fosters a responsive classroom culture that welcomes students’ backgrounds, knowledge, and experiences. In this session, we’ll explore tasks that use structure to offer an advantage and invite students to make their thinking visible. We’ll look at expressions, equations, and diagrams that use structure to create an environment where students’ ideas are at the center of the educational experience.
