WEBINARS ON DEMAND
Webinar Series: Experience IM K–5 Math™
Illustrative Mathematics hosted a series of live virtual webinar events, bringing together experts and practitioners to discuss pressing topics in mathematics education today. Because of our commitment to creating a world where all learners know, use, and enjoy mathematics, we place a high priority on exploring relevant topics and engaging with math leaders in conversations that affect today’s students and educators.
During each event, IM representatives highlight features of our IM K-5 Math curriculum, and share our vision for how it can help create lifelong math learners.
Family Engagement, Collaboration, and Support
March 10, 2022
60 min
Families play a crucial role in student learning, and at IM, we believe that students should be empowered to recognize and explore math in the world around them, whether they are at school, at home, or in their communities. Since students’ understanding of mathematics is shaped by their lived experiences, we encourage educators to learn about and value these experiences.
Our webinar, Family Engagement, Collaboration, and Support aims to highlight the opportunities schools and districts have to improve collaboration with families, who have been increasingly relied upon to support student learning as schools shift between virtual, in-person, and hybrid instructional formats. To help us unpack this topic, we have assembled a panel of family engagement and math education experts, parents, and school leaders. We invite educators and families to join us for this important discussion.
During the webinar, we will feature IM Certified Facilitator Robin Moore, who will highlight the family support materials embedded in IM K–5 Math, and share a variety of ways that IM is working to engage families in their students’ mathematics education.
Access to Mathematics through Language
January 26, 2022

In IM K–5 Math™, vocabulary is formally introduced after students have had time to make sense of mathematical ideas and learn new concepts. Join us in this conversation with math education professionals and school district leaders as we discuss ways to incorporate academic language practice into math instruction and share how these practices contribute to equitable and inclusive learning environments.
All students need opportunities to practice and develop mathematical language. During the webinar, we feature IM Certified Facilitator Robin Moore, who highlights the family support materials embedded in IM K–5 Math, and shares a variety of ways that IM is working to engage families in their students’ mathematics education.

A Focus on Student Thinking
September 15, 2021
60 minutes
This incredible line-up of experts and practitioners discussed the importance of centering student thinking, and shared their experiences with making the shift to a problem-based approach.
At IM, we built our curriculum on the principle that all students are capable of using what they know to learn and solve problems. Students learn math by doing math. During the webinar, IM Certified Facilitator Maureen O’Connell explained how our problem-based approach works, demonstrated an instructional routine, and shared the unique features of IM K–5 Math™ that support teachers with anticipating, understanding, advancing, and responding to student thinking.
